The InSite Immersive Learning Programme is a unique continuing professional development opportunity aimed at teachers, museum educators and other education professionals who want to increase their knowledge of twentieth century conflict and commemoration, and their confidence in teaching and learning outside the classroom.
The InSite Programme aims to:
Build confidence for teachers in leading successful, focussed and outcome led educational trips using museums, historic sites and their collections.
Increase subject knowledge of the impact of conflict in the twentieth century with particular emphasis on post-1945 events and the Cold War.
Build awareness of the issues inherent in teaching controversial and sensitive subjects and confidence in the delivery of these subjects.
Provide training in risk assessment, health and safety, itinerary planning and other practical issues arising from leading educational trips.
Increase motivation for leading educational trips.
Train people to act as advocates for learning outside the classroom within their own area.
Facilitate mutual learning exchanges between teachers and other educators, particularly those working in museums, libraries and archives.

The MA in Applied Professional Studies in Education, a groundbreaking programme supported by the TDA, which is being offered in partnership with nine subject associations across a range of subject disciplines, aims to support teachers’ development with specific reference to the teaching and learning of their specialist subject. This is achieved by means of four modules and a dissertation, all of which enable participants to focus their study on their own classroom practice in the context of their own particular needs and those of their schools.
The programme is highly significant as it provides an opportunity to gain accreditation of a range of ACT activity, such as attendance at national or local events, participation in committee work, reading of ACT journals and newsletters etc. This is achieved through the development of a learning portfolio containing reflections on the ways in which such engagement supports individual professional development needs.
Participants, who must be members of the ACT, will complete two modules per year, followed by a dissertation, and it is expected that the majority of participants will complete the MA in 3 years. If a participant has already accrued masters credits from a recent PGCE award then the programme is reduced to two years, two modules in the first year, followed by a dissertation in the second year. The ACT is offering concessions on HA membership and attendance at events to participants in this programme.
Further information is available

This module is ideal for students who have completed their Cambridge PGCE (at either primary or secondary level) and wish to build upon their practice within the area of citizenship and Well-being in schools.
This module will explore research and literature on pedagogy and practice for Citizenship and PSHE in schools, and will support participants to develop their practice and to investigate current provision in their school. It will consider historical, philosophical and theoretical perspectives on Citizenship and Well-being in schools.
The module will have a school-based focus and applications will be welcome from NQTs, early career teachers and local Citizenship and PSHE coordinators in both primary and secondary schools.
